Robert De Niro’s trans daughter, Airyn De Niro, has said the actor’s support for her has been “non-stop” in a heartwarming new interview.
The 29-year-old said her 82-year-old father, known for his performances in Taxi Driver and Goodfellas, has been incredibly affirming since she came out earlier this year.
“The support has still been non-stop from him, and I’m so grateful,” she told LGBTQ+ magazine Them.
“I talked to him about it very recently and I told him I wanted to do some touch-ups here and there, just so I can feel more confident in myself. The way he spoke to me about it was very affirming in a way, because he was saying things like, “You’re a good-looking kid. You don’t need to do anything to change yourself.”

Airyn came out publicly in May after speaking to the magazine about her transition. Shortly after, her father voiced his unwavering support to The Hollywood Reporter, saying he loves and supports his daughter.
Since then, the influencer has shared stories of her father’s allyship, including that the two-time Oscar winner offered to go with her to access gender-affirming hormones.
“There’s no other thing to do than accept your kid for who they are”
She told Them in an interview published earlier this week that, while in a group therapy session, Robert was asked about how he felt about Airyn’s transition, to which he responded: “There’s no other thing to do than accept your kid for who they are and where they decide to go in life.”
“He’s very good at being a dad and, not just that, [but also] accepting people from all walks of life,” Airyn said.
After Robert expressed hesitation at the idea of Airyn undergoing gender-affirming surgeries, she said the pair engaged in a conversation which the actor was open and receptive to.
“I explained it to him from the perspective of a trans woman, especially one who started transitioning late,” she said, “Like, I didn’t develop the way that a cis woman does. And [I shared] that’s why I’m more interested in doing some procedures to make me feel at home in my body.
“He understood that perspective, and he was accepting. He just really wants me to be careful and know where I’m going. So, he says, like, I don’t need it. But he supports me if I want to do that, which is the best thing any trans kid could ask for from their parent.”
