Out gay actor Tramell Tillman has made history at the Emmy Awards 2025 as the first Black actor to win Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.
Tramell Tillman, who plays the antagonistic Lumon manager Seth Milchick, in the Apple TV+ drama Severance, has written his name in history at the 2025 Emmy Awards.
Accepting the Emmy the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, for which he beat out three The White Lotus stars and two of his own cast mates from Severance, Tillman thanked his mother.
“You remember what you want to remember. You make time for what you want to make time for, do the work, show up, and most importantly, for the love of God, don’t embarrass me in public,” the out gay actor joked.
“My first acting coach was tough, y’all, but all great mothers are. Mama, you were there for me when no one was and no one else would show up. Your loving kindness stays with me, and this is for you,” he said onstage at the Peacock Theatre in downtown Los Angeles.
“Thank you to the Academy. I am full, I am humbled, I am honoured, and as my mama would say, ‘Woo! Look at God!’”

Tramell Tillman recently shared his mother’s fears that her son’s sexuality would “ruin” her son’s career.
Speaking to Variety, Tillman said in August that after coming out, his mother’s response was as follows: “I don’t want this to ruin your career, I don’t want you to be blackballed, I don’t want you to be pigeonholed.”
She also told Tillman, “Anyone you bring home, I will embrace him as my son.”
Prior to Tillman’s win, the best supporting actor in a drama series was the only category in its 77 years to not honour a Black performer.
From his own cast, Tillman beat out Zach Cherry and John Turturro, and from The White Lotus, Sam Rockwell, Jason Isaacs and Walton Goggins. James Marsden (Paradise) was also nominated.
Elsewhere at the Emmy Awards 2025, the cast of RuPaul’s Drag Race gagged fans with their red carpet looks, and Alan Cumming snatched a win for The Traitors over Drag Race for the second year running.
The 77th Emmy Awards are live on CBS, with the ceremony starting at 5pm PST. You can also stream them live and on demand via Paramount+ Premium.
