Drag Race stars’ red carpet looks – including Kori King as Michael Jackson – send fans spiralling

The Emmy Awards 2025 red carpet has already been won by the stars of RuPaul’s Drag Race, according to the internet, due to several out-of-the-box lewks – including Kori King as Michael Jackson.

It really is the Kori King cameo cinematic universe, and we’re all just living in it.

And by that, we mean that the cast of RuPaul’s Drag Race season 17 has hit the red carpet for the Emmy Awards 2025, where they’ll be vying to pick up RuPaul’s tenth nomination for Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality Competition Program, and the show’s ninth consecutive nomination in the Outstanding Reality Competition Program category – among others.

But while many stars of the splashiest season yet went for relatively ‘simple’ red carpet glam, including finalists Jewels Sparkles and Sam Star, several others have gone, shall we say, another direction.

Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome to the stage Kori King as Michael Jackson (popularised by several videos made by the drag creator as ‘Kori Jackson’ for his personalised video message side hustle via Cameo), and the slaysian diva herself, Joella, as a gigantic Labubu.

On the red carpet for the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards 2025, which are being held at the Peacock Theatre 14 September in downtown Los Angeles, Kori looks – and we say this with journalistic impartiality – terrifying.

“‘Drag is inherently sexual’ and it’s just Kori King and Joella dressed up as Michael Jackson and a Labubu at the Emmys,” on fan wrote on X.

Another added: “KORI KING IS THE FUNNIEST PERSON ALIVE,” about the look, and a third joked: “I was born in the right generation I love seeing Kori King as Michael Jackson and Joella as a Labubu for the literal Emmys.”

“Kori King terrifies as Michael Jackson,” another fan joked.

And though the headliners of the Drag Race Emmys cohort have undoubtedly been Kori and Joella, several others have put in a good effort.

Hormona Lisa stunned in a Miss Piggy inspired look, while Lexi Love went for a pink-glitter-spray-on number reminiscent of her official season 17 promo.

Elsewhere at the Emmy Awards 2025, besides the Drag Race cast, Bella Ramsey became the first publicly non-binary actor to secure multiple nominations, and gay Saturday Night Live star Bowen Yang made Emmy Awards history with his nods.

Doctor Who also snagged its first nomination after 62 years.

The 77th Emmy Awards are live on CBS, with the ceremony starting at 5pm PST. You can also stream them live and on demand via Paramount+ Premium.
