Drag Race star La Voix is already being hailed as ‘Strictly’s saviour’ after hilarious debut

At a time when Strictly Come Dancing is embroiled in scandal, drag queen La Voix is proving to be something of a breath of fresh air.

From making host Claudia Winkleman laugh to (jokingly) rejecting her professional dance partner, La Voix was the star of Saturday’s (September 20) launch show.

The first episode of the new series welcomed 15 new celebrities on to the ballroom floor and the RuPaul’s Drag Race UK finalist made a particularly memorable first impression as she met dance partner Aljaž Skorjanec.

As professional dancer Skorjanec entered the room, La Voix said: “That’s the one I said I didn’t want. Absolute joke!” She then turned and stormed out of the room.

However, it was all for show and she quickly came running back through the doors and into the arms of a beaming Skorjanec, who won Strictly on his first attempt 12 years ago.

“I learnt you can be happy with your second choice, look at us now. You don’t know where Aljaž starts and I end,” Las Voix joked.

La Voix, whose name out of drag is Chris Dennis, has made history as the first drag artist to compete in the main show. Fellow queen Tayce won last year’s Christmas special, dancing with Kai Widdrington.

‘Instantly loving these two’

Some people have already proclaimed La Voix the show’s saviour. One fan even dubbed the pair Alivoix. “I’m already obsessed with Aljaž and La Voix,” they said.

Another viewer praised the pairing, saying: “Instantly loving these two.”

Others declared “La Voix must win” and: “I’m so excited, La Voix to slay this ballroom.”

Speaking to co-host Claudia Winkleman, La Voix said: “I have done a talent show where I lost to a dog,” referring to her appearance on Britain’s Got Talent. “Now I’ve got to deal with the threat of my hairspray being stolen by [Strictly judges] Motsi [Mabuse] and Shirley [Ballas]. The battle is on!”
