Chris Martin asks fans to put phones down at Coldplay concert – unless you’re on Grindr

Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin has earned the respect of thousands more homosexuals by urging audiences to put their phones away during a concert – unless they were on Grindr.

In a TikTok posted to Metro Entertainment‘s account, the Coldplay frontman can be seen during one of the band’s recent Wembley Stadium show for the Music of the Spheres World Tour.

Addressing the crowd, Martin said: “My final request for this one song, and after that you can do whatever you like, please for this one song, consider having no phones, no cameras, no filming, no tweeting, no Snapchatting, no Instagram, no TikTok, no FitBit-ing, no Tinder, no Grindr.”

And then, because he is an ally, Martin conceded that actually, the gay networking app that is generally used for gay and bisexual men to, ahem, connect, should be allowed through the net.

“Well, keep Grindr, but everything else has to go, okay?”

And, because this is the weirdest timeline, the official Grindr account commented: “Hosting in the bathroom at the Coldplay show.”

Another TikTok account joked about the generally heterosexual fanbase of the British band, writing: “No one reacted to ‘No Grindr’. The audience is so straight haha.”

Another joked: “Grindr at Coldplay? They’re all watching Madonna.”

It’s also not, bizarrely, the first time Chris Martin and Grindr have appeared in the same headline.

In 2016, following his very public split from Gwyneth Paltrow, Martin said that he was “on Grindr most weeks,” in reference to his newly single life.

And though he may have been joking, the 48-year-old has always been a firm ally to the LGBTQ+ community. In 2024, the Coldplay singer shared a deeply moving moment with a trans fan on stage at a show in Dublin, Ireland, and later that year proved just how easy it is to respect pronouns at an Auckland, New Zealand concert.
