A new teaser for Wicked: For Good shows Ariana Grande, Jonathan Bailey and Cynthia Erivo grappling with their actions – and each other – as Glinda, Fiyero and Elphaba.
Fasten your seatbelts, girls, gays and theys, because we’re heading back to Oz faster than you can say: “Holding space”.
After an initial darker trailer for Wicked: For Good (and some less-than-well-received character posters), the publicity train for the sequel to the 2024 smash hit has well and truly left the station on its way to Emerald City – and its next stop is a brief but revealing 30-second teaser, released 4 September.
In it, Ariana Grande is in full swing as the state-backed Glinda the Good Witch. But as we know from the end of Wicked‘s first half, which is based on Act One of the Broadway musical, her status came at great cost.
She and Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) are separated from each other, and Glinda’s romance with Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey) seems strained, probably because at least one of them is definitely in love with Elphaba.
We see what appears to be Fiyero and Glinda before their wedding in Wicked: For Good – a scene not seen in the stage show – and Fiyero tell Glinda: “You can’t resist this.”
“Who could?” Glinda replies, to which Fiyero says: “You know who could.”
The Wizard (Jeff Goldblum) is also seen being ever so nefarious, telling the original quartet from the Wizard of Oz (i.e. Dorothy, The Cowardly Lion, The Tin Man and The Scarecrow) to bring him the Wicked Witch’s broom.
And, always one for dramatic lines concerned with the black and white of good vs. evil, Elphaba tells Glinda: “We can’t let ‘good’ be just a word.”
Michelle Yeoh’s Madame Morrible is conspicuously missing, as is Ethan Slater’s Boq and Marissa Bode‘s Nessarose.
Wicked: For Good is set to be released in cinemas on 21 November 2025 – and if we’re lucky, will be accompanied by another bonkers press tour.
