Comedy legend Jane Krakowski will succeed Jinkx Monsoon in the titular role of Tony winner Cole Escola’s Oh, Mary!
In what is fast becoming a version of jury duty for iconic queer celebrities and gay icons alike, Broadway’s Oh, Mary! has announced that Jane Krakowski is to tread the boards next, following in the footsteps of two-time RuPaul’s Drag Race winner Jinkx Monsoon.
The casting, confirmed via social media posts from the show’s account, simply wrote: “Jane Krakowski is Mary Todd Lincoln,” and gave the star’s starting date at 14 October.
In a statement, Krakowski said: “Thank you, Cole, for giving us this madcap work of genius, directed to perfection by Tony Award winner Sam Pinkleton.
“I am so honored to slip into the bratty curls previously worn by (my Tony Award winning zaddy) Cole Escola, (my sister wife) Betty Gilpin, (my comedy brother) Tituss Burgess, and (mother) Jinkx Monsoon.”
The role will be played by Hannah Solow from 30 September to 12 October.

Oh, Mary! became an instant queer classic when it premiered in mid-2024.
It was created by Escola – who recently made queer history at the Tony Awards by becoming the first non-binary actor to win the Leading Actor in a Play category – and focuses on Mary Todd Lincoln, former First Lady of the United States and wife of Abraham Lincoln until his assassination in 1865.
In Escola’s take, Mary is somewhat of an idiot, becoming a “madcap, cabaret-obsessed alcoholic“, and though Escola originated the role, they were succeeded by Betty Gilpin, and then Krakowski’s former Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt co-star, Tituss Burgess.
Monsoon took over from him 4 August, and will stay in the role until 27 September.
Krakowski is best known for turns in 30 Rock and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and has seven Emmy nomination.
Oh, Mary! was nominated in several Tony Award categories; Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Play category for queer How to Get Away with Murder star Conrad Ricamora, and Best Direction of a Play and Best Costume Design of a Play categories.
The current cast includes Jenn Harris as Mary’s Chaperone, Tony Mact as Mary’s Husband’s Assistant, Kumail Nanjiani as Mary’s Husband (President Abraham Lincoln) and Micheal Urie as Mary’s Teacher.
