Celebrity Traitors’ Charlotte Church ‘p****d off’ by Alison Hammond exchange

Charlotte Church has expressed how she was ‘p****d off’ by Alison Hammond while appearing on This Morning last year.

The Celebrity Traitors star shared all with Elizabeth Day on the most recent episode of Day’s podcast, How to Fail.

The incident with Hammond took place on the ITV show last year when Church was asked on to demonstrate a sound bath, something the singer practices on her wellness retreats.

In the segment, which has gone viral previously on social media, Church invited hosts Dermot O’Leary and Hammond to lie down and close their eyes as she carried out the sound bath. Throughout the short session Hammond can be seen giggling before eventually conceding, “I can’t concentrate. It’s so hard!”.

Asked by Day if she was bothered by Hammond Church replied, “Oh, that p****d me right off. That p****d me right off.”

Church went on to say she’d met Hammond “a number of times,” adding, “she’s a wonderful woman.” She continued, “I think that part of it was a misjudgement on my part to go ‘let’s do a five minute sound bath on national TV. That makes loads of sense. Yeah, let’s go for it.’”

But the Welsh singer then explained that the most annoying thing was having “this amazing art” being made “a figure of fun.”

Explaining that it t reminded her of other times she was made fun of in her career, she concluded: “That really did actually touch quite a deep wound for me. I was like, ‘Ugh I really like you, Alison, but f*** you’.”

Church is currently starring in The Celebrity Traitors alongside the likes of Alan Carr, Tom Daley, Kate Garraway, and Clare Balding. The latter, as well as Carr and Daley, are among the LGBTQ+ stars taking part.

Jonathan Ross, who is one of this series’ Traitors (as well as Carr and Cat Burns) has shared that he “didn’t actually enjoy” the experience. He added, “the lying of it genuinely made me feel increasingly uncomfortable.”

The Celebrity Traitors airs at 9pm on BBC1 and the iPlayer on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
