Alexander Skarsgård has revealed what his father, fellow actor Stellan Skarsgård, thought of his smutty new BDSM film, Pillion.
Skarsgård stars in Pillion alongside Harry Potter actor Harry Melling, with the duo playing Ray and Colin respectively, a polar-opposite pair who enter into a gay, dom/sub relationship.
Pillion opens with Colin, a meek traffic warden and barbershop quartet singer, performing in his local suburban pub on Christmas eve. When Ray and his biker gang roll in, the mysterious macho man takes a shine to the endearingly awkward musician before him.

Within the film’s first 15 minutes, Colin is performing oral sex on Ray behind the back of a Primark, and licking his biker boots. There’s a flash of Ray’s manhood – Prince Albert piercing and all – and Colin, um, gets what he came for.
The film progresses with Colin being welcomed into Ray’s queer friend group, which is made up of other bikers in BDSM-based, dom/sub relationships. Colin thinks he’s found love, but is unsettled by Ray’s cold front and lack of intimacy. The result is a sweet, sad, complex and oh-so-horny love story for the ages.
Pillion screened at the 69th BFI London Film Festival on 18 October, and Skarsgård’s father Stellan, who is best known for his roles in Chernobyl, Andor and Mamma Mia! was in the audience.
Speaking on the red carpet for the screening, Skarsgård – who stole the show in a sleeveless shirt and leather trousers – revealed that his father had seen Pillion before, and had no notes.
Or, as Skarsgård put it: “No notes from daddy.”
“He really enjoyed it. It meant a lot to me because it’s very dear to me, this film,” he told On Demand Entertainment.
“It was a beautiful day to have – I was in the theatre, and to sit next to Dad and watch him watch this thing was special. The fact that he really responded to it meant a lot to me. No notes from daddy.”

On the same red carpet, Alexander Skarsgård spoke to PinkNews about his hope that the film avoids the stereotypes of a dom/top relationship.
“After the big orgy scene, some of the couples are very affectionate with each other and very warm and loving, even if they have a sub/dom relationship. That doesn’t mean you can’t cuddle and kiss,” he explained.
“We wanted to avoid stereotypes and also try to make those scenes feel authentic. [Sex] can be clumsy, it can be awkward, it can be weird and it can be funny. It doesn’t have to be sexy all the time.
“We wanted those scenes with the whole gang to feel authentic but it was also important to distinguish the couples within this group because we’re not carbon copies of each other. For example, Colin and Ray don’t kiss. But that doesn’t mean it’s a rule within the group obviously.”
Pillion is in UK cinemas on 28 November.
