Shea Couleé shares first ‘surreal’ full trailer for Marvel’s Ironheart

The first full length trailer for Marvel’s Ironheart, starring Dominique Thorne, Anthony Ramos and Shea Couleé, is finally here.

First introduced in 2022’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Riri Williams (Thorne) is back, baby, for her own six-episode long Marvel television series, Ironheart.

The series is set to follow the super-smart inventor as she creates her own Iron Man-inspired armour, all while dealing with the mysterious Hood (Ramos), with whom she seems to strike somewhat of an uneasy alliance in the first full length trailer.

The cast is filled out by Lyric Ross as Riri’s friend Natalie Washington, Alden Ehrenreich as Joe McGillicuddy, Matthew Elam as Xavier Washington, Anji White as Riri’s mother, Manny Montana as Cousin John and none other than Drag Race royalty Shea Couleé.

The All Stars 5 winner took to Instagram to share the first full length trailer for Ironheart, which is executive produced by Ryan Coogler, with a lenthy caption.

“This feels so surreal,” Shea wrote under the trailer. “I got goosebumps watching this, and a flood of INCREDIBLE memories from making this series. I’m HELLA proud and grateful for my sis [one of the series’s directors, Sam Bailey] stepping boobs first into the MCU and directing with both her heart and her c***.”

She continued: “[Writer Chinaka Hodge] thanks for always pouring into me with such incredible generosity. You’re a brilliant human being.

“I’m in awe of [Dominique Thorne] and her COMMANDING presence, and look forward to seeing how she continues the story of Riri Williams in such an electrifying way.

“And to everyone in the “GWORLS” group chat. I love y’all the most. You made my acting debut unforgettable and I’m glad that I get to experience this with you all.”

Who does Shea Couleé play in Marvel’s Ironheart?

Though there was speculation that Shea Couleé, who first rose to fame on season nine of RuPaul’s Drag Race in 2017 before returning to win All Stars 5 and compete in All Stars 7, would play drag queen mutant Shade, that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Variety reports thats Shea, or Ms. Couleé if you’re nasty, will play Slug in Ironheart; the most notable ‘Slug’ in Marvel history is an infamous character that was originally a Spider-Man villain.

Anyone familiar with the original version of Slug might point out that he’s a 1,200 pound man in the comics –something that Shea doesn’t seem exactly suited to.

However, it’s always possible that the character has been reimagined for the silver screen, and given that comic-book Slug has history with The Hood, it seems that that might be what’s occurring for Ironheart. And given that Couleé doesn’t actually appear in the trailer, anything is possible.

The series is already set to bolster Marvel’s sometimes lacking LGBTQ+ representation, with trans non-binary actor Zoe Terakes on the cast, and a casting call for Ironheart in 2022 revealing that the show was looking for a “smart, confident and mystical” trans woman.

Ironheart will premiere with its first three episodes on Disney + on 24 June.
