Trans lawmaker Sarah McBride has issued a scathing response to anti-trans Trump supporters who target her online.
On Tuesday (8 April), McBride, who is the first out trans congresswoman, took to her X (formerly Twitter) account to make clear her boundaries when it comes to interactions from others on social media.
“The trans-obsessed accounts in my mentions are up. That must mean the stock market is down,” the congresswoman wrote.
Her comments come just days after a social media user responded with a hateful anti-trans message to McBride for rallying alongside fellow politicians at the education workers’ union to protest against the US Department of Education cuts.

Addressing her by her dead name and misgendering her, the social media user demanded she “take the dress off and start dressing like the man you are and then the world might garner some respect for you”.
To this, Sarah McBride effortlessly wrote, “I hope you are well, Jonathan. Also, I’m wearing pants.”
The congresswoman joined Gov. Matt Meyer, Attorney General Kathy Jennings, Lt. Gov. Kyle Evans Gay and State Secretary of Education Cindy Marten, who all spoke at the teachers and education workers rally on 5 April. The rally was held in response to President Trump’s 20 March executive order dismantling the Department of Education.
McBride said at the event, as per Delaware Online: “It’s not just going to be members of Congress who save our country, who protect our students and our schools, who protect our communities, who protect our rights. It’s going to take every single one of us. It’s going to take all of you. It’s going to take our unions.”
“It’s going to require people power to fully push back on this administration and efforts by Republicans in Congress to undermine and gut public education in this country,” she added after the rally.
