Rylan Clark has spoken about the merry collision of two worlds – Doctor Who and the Eurovision Song Contest – in which he features “a lot,” according to him.
On Sunday (11 May), Rylan picked up a BAFTA for Best Factual Entertainment programme along with Rob Rinder for Rob and Rylan’s Grand Tour.
Speaking to journalists afterward Rylan discussed his upcoming role in the Doctor Who-Eurovision crossover.
He described it as “an absolute honour” to have been asked by Russell T Davies to be in the upcoming Eurovision-themed episode, “The Interstellar Song Contest”, which airs on Saturday (17 May) at 7.10pm on BBC One in the UK.
“I thought it would be like a little side bit where I’m just going ‘Oh hello!’ and gone,” he said, as quoted by Digital Spy. “And then I got like a 92-page script so yeah, I’m in it quite a lot.”
He added: “I can’t give anything away because I will be shot. But I’ve gotta say: wins a BAFTA on Sunday, Eurovision throughout the week and Doctor Who on Saturday – it’s a good week for Rylan. So, I’m very happy!”

A synopsis for the episode reads: “On the Doctor’s quest to get Belinda home, a night of fun becomes a battle to the death.”
As per the BBC, the episode sees The Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) and Belinda Chandra (Varada Sethu) “travel to the 803rd Interstellar Song Contest, co-hosted by Rylan – where planets from across the universe compete for the top prize. Along for the ride is the King of Eurovision himself, Graham Norton.”
The episode was written by known Eurovision fan and queer icon, Juno Dawson.
And in another tie-in between Doctor Who and Eurovision, Gatwa will take on the role of the UK’s Jury spokesperson during the Grand Final on Saturday 17 May.
Rylan will indeed be having a busy week this week as he provides live commentary of the two live Eurovision semi-finals, along with fellow Eurovision fan, Scott Mills. Graham Norton will then take over for Saturday’s Grand Final.
Doctor Who airs on Saturday (17 May) at 7.10pm on BBC One in the UK and on Disney+ in the US. The Eurovision live shows will be on BBC One and the BBC iPlayer on Tuesday 13, Thursday 15, and Saturday 17 May from 8pm in the UK.
