Rylan Clark addresses Big Brother speculation as reboot finally confirmed

Big Brother will return to screens after being picked up by ITV2 – but fan favourite Rylan Clark doesn’t appear to be involved.

The iconic reality show will return in 2023 after being axed five years ago, and is moving home to ITV2 and ITVX, it was announced during the Love Island finale on Monday (1 August).

It follows months of rumours and fan campaigning, spearheaded in part by veteran Big Brother veteran and TV personality Rylan Clark.

Amid speculation that ITV would resurrect Big Brother, fans have been calling for Rylan to be made the show’s new host.

Rylan was quick to respond to the news, tweeting“He was always watching… It’s coming home.”

He shared a parody video of Kamala Harris telling Joe Biden they had won the US election over the phone, exclaiming: “We did it Joe!”

Unfortunately, Rylan confirmed that he has not yet been asked to host, but added: “As a fan, like always, I’m made up it’s coming back.

“I know how hard you/we all fought to keep that name alive and I’m so glad it paid off in the end. The OG reality is back. It’s the news we wanted. Welcome back bro x”

He shared his own wishlist for the new season, including adopting “a small part of gameplay from oversea territories, some form of live feed” and “Big Brother to always be in charge”.

According to Rylan the production is still in its very early days.

The format is apparently being modernised, with members of the public entering a brand-new Big Brother house. Beloved aspects including live evictions and public voting will remain, ITV has confirmed.

Irish duo Jedward, who appeared on Celebrity Big Brother in 2011 and 2017, have put themselves forward to present, dubbing themselves “iconic housemates”.

Paul Mortimer, director of reality commissioning and acquisitions and controller of ITV2, ITVBe and CITV, said: “We’re beyond excited to bring this iconic series to ITV2 and ITVX where it should especially engage with our younger viewers.”

Big Brother reboot confirmed and nobody is calm

Before it was cancelled in 2018, the culture shifting reality tv show had run for 18 years across Channel 4 and Channel 5.

During that time it birthed some iconic moments, from the dead David saga to Nikki Grahame’s diary room meltdown.

Fans are shrieking their delight for the news and announcing their predictions for what to expect.

Hearing the Big Brother theme tune has honestly sent serotonin flying through my body,” one fan wrote.

Another requested: “I really hope the Big Brother cast isn’t full of wannabe influencers and overly attractive people.”

And others are already putting their presenter wishes out there: “@AlisonHammond to host #BigBrother when it returns to @itv2  in 2023! Just putting it into the universe!!”
