Republican congresswoman Nancy Mace has continued her campaign against trans people by using a slur to refer to a university student.
Mace was recorded embarking on a second tirade in less than a week, this time repeating a slur to a trans undergraduate at the University of South Carolina (USC).
Speaking at an event at USC, hosted by the university’s chapter of conservative group Turning Point USA, Mace repeated the slur “tr**ny” after she was asked to apologise by 20-year-old Harley Hicks for using the word the first time.
During the clip, which has been shared across social media, Mace was asked by Hicks to refrain from using the word because it was derogatory.
Mace, who has been in the US House of Representatives since 2021, replied: “Is tr**ny derogatory, really? Yeah, tr**ny. Tr**ny, tr**ny, tr**ny.”
According to the South Carolina Daily Gazette, Hicks replied: “Well, yeah, of course it f**king is.”
Mace’s treatment of LGBTQ+ people has dramatically shifted over the past year and she spearheaded a ban on trans women using female toilets in the US Capitol building.
Once described as a “pro-LGBT, social moderate” member of the Republican Party, she has said single-sex spaces should be restricted on the basis of “biological sex,” and has habitually used slurs to attack transgender people.
In a video shared on social media on Sunday (20 April), Mace was seen arguing with a shopper who had asked whether she would be holding any town hall meetings this year.

Mace accused the man of “harassing” her, assumed that he was gay, and began citing her voting history on same-sex marriage.
“I’ve done one [town hall meeting], I’ll do plenty more. You’re always invited and, by the way, I voted for gay marriage twice,” she said.
After the shopper questioned how that was relevant to him, she responded that it had “everything to do with you,” before shouting: “You people on the left are absolutely f***ing crazy.”
Her use of slurs, especially in congress, has prompted Virginia Democrat Gerry Connolly to call for an inquiry into her behaviour.
During a House Oversight committee meeting in February, Mace was criticised for asking if “paying for tr*****s in Guatemala” was in the interest of American citizens.
Asked to refrain from using that kind of language during official government hearings, Mace – who is considering running to be governor of South Carolina next year – accused fellow committee members of wanting “penises in women’s bathrooms”.
