Lady Gaga bomb plot suspect wanted to ‘respond’ to singer being a ‘satanist’

Brazilian police have claimed that a third suspect in the alleged plot to cause an explosion at a Lady Gaga concert wanted to “respond” to the singer being a supposed “satanist”.

Lady Gaga attracted a record attendance at her free concert on the world-famous Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday (3 May). But among the crowd of some 2.5 million fans were a man and a teenager who have since been arrested in connection with an alleged plot to detonate explosives targeting the LGBTQ+ community.

A spokesperson for singer said: “Her team worked closely with law enforcement throughout the planning and execution of the concert and all parties were confident in the safety measures in place.”

Police have now charged a third person, who has not been named, with terrorism offences, CNN reported.

An investigation revealed that the third suspect allegedly planned to sacrifice a child or a baby during the concert in a bid to complete a “satanist ritual”.

According to police, the man said his plan was an attempt to “respond in the same way” to Lady Gaga, whom he claimed was a satanist.

There is no evidence to suggest that Lady Gaga, who was raised Catholic, is a satanist. She has often spoken publicly about identifying as Christian, even incorporating religious themes into her music, such as in the song “Judas”.

Rio police chief Luiz Lima alleged that the suspects disseminated hate speech and violent content online “aimed at gaining notoriety in order to attract more viewers, more participants – most of them teenagers, many of them children”.
