Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday returns in first six minutes of season two: ‘It’s been an eventful summer’

Wednesday is back for season two, little monsters, and so is Jenna Ortega – and she’s creepier than ever in a sneak peek at year two at Nevermore.

When the first season of Wednesday released in 2022, starring Jenna Ortega as Addams Family daughter in a spinoff of her own, it immediately blasted records, becoming the most viewed English-language TV series in its first week (with 341.23 million hours) totalled up.

It’s no surprise that the show was renewed for season two – and after over two years, the wait to return to Nevermore Academy is nearly over.

The first clip from Wednesday season two was released as part of Netflix’s TUDUM preview event (1 June) for its upcoming slate of projects, and is a whopping six minutes and twenty-five seconds long, featuring everyone’s favourite day of the week in a pit of a pickle.

“It’s been an eventful summer,” Wednesday tells us in a voiceover, as we see her “tied up in a serial killer’s basement” surrounded by creepy dolls, complete with a gag and an attitude problem.

Six weeks earlier, we see that Wednesday has spent her summer getting her mysterious psychic abilities “under control” (wonder how long that will last), and subsequently turned to her obsession with serial killers – specifically, the Kansas City Scalper.

Using her abilities, Wednesday gets the Scalper “in her crosshairs”. She then travels across the country via an airport check-in experience that sees the charming teenager dump a knuckle duster, taser, pepper spray, nunchucks, tanto blade, flail, three knives, two machetes and a combat axe in the security bin.

There’s also the matter of Thing (The Addams Family’ sentient hand) in Wednesday’s carry-on (“I’m headed to the Junior Embalmers Convention”) and some suncream – that’s over 3.4 ounces.

Wednesday gets to Kansas City, but when she confronts the Scalper, she passes out as her eyes start dribbling black gunk. Ew.

Cut back to the present, and the Scalper is ready to start, well, scalping, but Wednesday doesn’t seem all that fussed. Probably because she knows that Thing is about to start attacking the Scalper, which it heartily does, before Wednesday says: “Let’s play dolls”, and confronts the killer with a gigantic knife.

The clip cuts to black – but not before Thing (literally) points out the black gunk, which Wednesday refers to as “a minor psychic glitch”, so we’re sure to be seeing more of that this season.

A first trailer for the season was released in April, teasing the return of season one characters Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones), Gomez (Luis Guzmán), Pugsley (Isaac Ordonez), Enid (Emma Myers) and more.

Crucially, Wednesday season two will also star mother monster herself, Lady Gaga, in an as-yet-undisclosed role and series newcomers Steve Buscemi and Joanna Lumley

Wednesday season two is dropping in two parts; Part 1 is coming to Netflix on 6 August, and Part 2 will hit the platform 3 September.
