US vice president JD Vance has almost immediately become Bluesky’s most blocked man after joining the social media platform.
The 40-year-old Republican made his debut on the X/Twitter rival in typical right-wing fashion by attempting to troll its userbase, which grew rapidly as X/Twitter users became disillusioned with its current own, Elon Musk.
In his first post on the platform, Vance shared a section of the US Supreme Court’s decision to uphold a trans healthcare ban in Tennessee this week, writing: “Hello Bluesky, I’ve been told this app has become the place to go for common sense political discussion and analysis. So I’m thrilled to be here to engage with all of you.”
His attempt at sparking controversy through his support of justice Clarence Thomas’ claim that trans youth care is reliant on “questionable evidence” was met with the sound of hundreds of thousands of block buttons being clicked.
According to the unofficial data tracker, Clearsky, JD Vance became the site’s most blocked user in its four-year history, having been blocked by over 110,400 users in just a matter of days.
Vance has been blocked by at least 47,388 people in the last 24-hours alone – over 12-times more blocks than the site’s second most blocked account in the past day, which also happens to be JD Vance’s official vice president account.
Conversely, Vance has gained just 10,000 followers since creating the account earlier this week.

American right-wing journalist, Jesse Singal, expressed his dismay at no longer being the most blocked person on the site, writing in an X/Twitter post: “This isn’t happening.”
“You work hard your whole life to achieve something great and then some idiot can just come along and snatch it,” the 42-year-old, who has been blocked by just 81,200 people, joked.
Other top blocked users include the unofficial trending bot, “Now Breezing,” notorious transmedicalist pundit and self-proclaimed Zionist, Brianna Wu, and American businessman and television personality, Mark Cuban.
JD Vance flops on Bluesky debut
Upon its soft-launch in 2021 and eventual public releaze in 2024, the social media quickly became an online refuge for LGBTQ+ people, particularly trans people, abandoning X/Twitter following Elon Musk’s takeover.
Founded by former Twitter CEO, Jack Dorsey, the app has since gained a huge sub-community of trans people thanks to its early moderation policies mitigating levels of harassment which have become commonplace on Musk’s Twitter.
The platform’s progressive userbase was on display in the replies of Vance’s first post, with many telling him to leave Bluesky, and the community, alone.
“Dude, wtf are you even doing here?” one user commented, while another wrote: “Opportunists are not welcome here.”
“Yes, this place is for common sense. Please return to Truth Social and f**k off. Nobody cares about your opinion,” another wrote.
A post by JD Vance on X/Twitter informing his followers of his new Bluesky account tells a different story, with the usual suspects of right-wing punditry commending him for “doing a little trolling.”
