Harry Potter actor Nick Frost to star in new trans comedy Transaction with Jordan Gray

Actor Nick Frost is set to star in new ITV comedy Transaction, about a transgender supermarket worker who causes “havoc” during her night shifts.

Nick Frost, who recently found himself in hot water with the LGBTQ+ community for agreeing to star in HBO’s new Harry Potter reboot, plays Simon, a supermarket boss who finds himself “in hot water with the LGBTQ+ community”.

Transaction is written by and stars trans comedian Jordan Gray, who plays Liv – the chaos-causing supermarket worker in question. The series will air from 24 June.

“After a marketing campaign backfires spectacularly, supermarket boss Simon finds himself in hot water with the LGBTQ+ community,” reads a synopsis.

“To try and prove that he’s really inclusive, honest, he hires Liv, a transgender woman who ticks the diversity box, but not much else.

“Despite a non-existent work ethic, it’s pretty much impossible for Liv to get the sack, encouraging her to wreak havoc on the supermarket night shift.”

In a short teaser trailer, Liv jokes while stood by her colleagues, one who is Black and one with dwarfism: “How much more diverse does this place want to be? We look like the set up to a joke that would get you uninvited to Christmas dinner.”

Gray and Frost are joined by A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder actor Thomas Gray as Tom, Harlots’ Francesca Mills as Millie, and Mickey 17 actress Kayla Meikle as Beefy Linda. All three are fellow supermarket overnight shift workers.

The six-part comedy series is based on Gray’s miniseries of the same name, which she dropped on Comedy Central’s YouTube channel back in 2020.

Gray is best known for her appearance on Channel 4’s Friday Night Live in 2022, in which she performed a hilarious song on the piano about her experiences of being a transgender woman. During the song, she stripped naked, and garnered both backlash and immediate adoration from the LGBTQ+ community. The performance won her a BAFTA.

The performer is also known for her 2022 comedy show Is It A Bird? and her recent follow-up show Is That a C*ck in Your Pocket, or Are You Just Here to Kill Me?

While Nick Frost is best known for his roles in Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead, the actor’s next major project after Transaction is his role as Hagrid in HBO’s Harry Potter series.

The series, which is being executively produced by Harry Potter author JK Rowling, has been steeped in controversy since being announced, despite not yet beginning filming.

Actors involved have been criticised for signing up to star in a project linked to Rowling due to her vocal, negative views on the trans community.

Frost recently urged that his and Rowling’s stance “don’t align”.

“She’s allowed her opinion and I’m allowed mine, they just don’t align in any way, shape or form,” he told The Observer.

“But maybe it shouldn’t blow over,” he said of the controversy related to the new Potter project.

“We shouldn’t just hope it will go away, because it makes it easier. Maybe we should educate ourselves.”

Episode one of Transaction will air on Tuesday 24 June on ITV2, and will then air weekly.

All episodes will be available on ITVX from 24 June.
