Pop sensation Lady Gaga has broken the record for the highest-attended concert by a female artist, surpassing even Madonna.
Lady Gaga garnered record attendance at her free-to-attend concert at Brazil’s Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday (3 May).
It’s estimated that she attracted more than two million attendees while performing her latest studio album Mayhem and other hits over the weekend.
The 14-time Grammy Award-winner told her gathered fans: “Tonight, we’re making history. Thank you for making history with me!”
A year ago, Madonna performed at the same location, drawing an estimated 1.6 million concert-goers.
Videos of the event posted by attendees capture the electric energy of the crowd as Gaga performed her latest hit, “Abracadabra”, wearing a green, blue and yellow gown in tribute to Brazil.

‘Mama that’s HISTORY’
A fan who posted footage from the show added text that read: “17 years into her career, performing to a crowd of over 2.1M people…mama that’s HISTORY.
“Lady Gaga you will ALWAYS be famous in Brazil.”

The concert marked Gaga’s first show in Brazil since 2012 after being forced to cancel in 2017 when she was hospitalised with fibromyalgia – also called fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS). It is a chronic condition that made Gaga’s theatrical performances, elaborate dance routines and singing painful.
Saturday’s huge concert, according to Brazilian police, was also the target of an alleged bomb plot, with two people having been arrested in connection.
A spokesperson for Lady Gaga said: “Her team worked closely with law enforcement throughout the planning and execution of the concert and all parties were confident in the safety measures in place.”
