Dannii Minogue teases ‘steamy’ I Kissed A Boy season two – and a big new twist

Pop icon Dannii Minogue is back in the love seat and playing cupid for season two of BBC’s I Kissed A Boy, but things are set to be a little rockier this time around.

Speaking at a screening for the first episode of season two yesterday (7 May), host and staunch LGBTQ+ ally Dannii Minogue revealed that the show’s second outing features some “drama-filled” scenes.

The eleven-strong cast of I Kissed A Boy season two was revealed last week, featuring a cheerleading coach, a model, and the show’s first ever transgender man

Much of the format for season two will follow that of its predecessor, with 10 men coming into the Italian masseria and being instantly paired up. Before even exchanging names, the pair must embrace and go in for a passionate kiss.

Over the following days, they will attempt to get to know each other, before Minogue hosts a weekly “kiss-off” where the couples must kiss if they want to remain together.

All unkissed boys are sent home. Along the way there will be bombshell new contestants, entering the masseria with the potential to shake up some of the existing relationships.

While all the contestants are entering the show looking for love, it’s clear that the search for a sizzling summer romance doesn’t come without some bumps along the way.

“I think that there was one kiss-off that we did in a lightning storm that was pretty dramatic. I won’t say who was leaving at that time, but that was drama-filled,” Minogue teased, to rousing cheers of agreement from the cast.

She also revealed that season two will feature an “instant kiss-off” whereby the couples are caught off guard and have to make an impromptu decision about their future.

“I rock up. The boys are having cocktails, and they’re thinking, ‘OK, this is kind of good.’ And I just caught them when they were pretty relaxed and I’m like, ‘Right, let’s go. It’s happening now,’” Minogue explained. “So that was pretty dramatic.”

However, the “I Begin To Wonder” hitmaker stressed that I Kissed A Boy is still a “joyful celebration” of queer love, and won’t feature “scripted” drama like other reality romance shows.

“As much as I come in and I’ll give [them] a little challenge, it’s all up to [the] guys,” she explained, before teasing a twist in episode one.

“You saw in the first episode. It’s like, the key went down and… the choice is yours. I’m not meddling with that.”

Considering there are 11 men on the cast list to start with, it’s likely that there will be a late arrival from the off – with the “key” suggesting that one of the already coupled boys will have to choose to go and meet the newbie and let them into the masseria.

The former The X Factor judge also confirmed that – much like in season one – there are plenty of “steamy bits” for viewers to get hot under the collar over.

“I love the steamy bits,” she laughed. “It’s steaming because of the honesty. It does get dramatic up there, but it’s not in a flippant way. [The] guys are very real with each other.”

I Kissed A Boy returns to BBC Three and BBC iPlayer on Sunday 11 May for episode one, and Monday 12 May for episode two.
