Chappell Roan scrubbed herself for ‘days’ to remove Governor’s Ball body paint: ‘I spread my cheeks’

Chappell Roan is hailed for her daring, drag-inspired looks, but the reality behind her iconic wardrobe is sometimes less than glamorous, the star has revealed.

Following her iconic New York Governor’s Ball Performance, where Roan embodied Lady Liberty, the singer revealed that she had to scrub herself for “days” to remove her green body paint.

The style icon told Alex Cooper on a recent episode of her Call Her Daddy podcast that the body paint from her Statue of Liberty costume “didn’t come off”.

“The way I got that off was I took three baths, not soap, dish soap. I literally poured dish soap in and scrubbed rubbed my whole body with coconut oil, jumped in, scrubbed with a literal, like, kitchen sponge,” “The Giver” hitmaker revealed.

“I literally looked moldy for four days,” she said, adding that the product even tinged her bikini line. My pubes are pulling out from it all. I’m not even, like, lasered or anything.”

As for the process of being green-ified, Roan had to “spread my cheeks and get sprayed with green”.

During the performance, Roan told the audience, “I am in drag of the biggest queen of all,”

She quoted a line from the sonnet written on the 1903 bronze plaque in the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty by American poet Emma Lazarus, which reads: “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses, yearning to breathe free.”

Roan interpreted this as meaning “freedom in trans rights, that means freedom in women’s rights”. She continued, now getting visibly emotional, “And it especially means freedom for all oppressed people in occupied territories.”

During her podcast appearance, Roan also delivered an update to her relationship status, discussed the true story behind her trademark track “HOT TO GO!” and what constitutes a “Casual” situationship.
