Rght-wing radio talk show host Bob Enyart, who spent his years cruelly mocking AIDS victims, has died of coronavirus.
Enyart, a Colorado-based conservative known for his slashing style of ridicule and, more recently, for urging people to boycott COVID-19 vaccines, was reported to have contracted the virus two weeks ago on the show’s Facebook page.
In a Facebook post Monday (13 September), Enyart’s co-host, Fred Williams announced he had “lost his battle with COVID”.
“Bob Enyart was one of the smartest, and without question, the wisest person I’ve known. All the while being exceedingly kind and humble, and always, always willing to listen and discuss anything you wanted.
“Heaven’s gain has left an enormous hole here on earth.”
The Real Science Radio host’s death came after the Denver Bible Church reported that he and his wife had been hospitalised – both had refused to receive the vaccine.
“Pastor Bob and Cheryl are in […] good hands and improving daily,” the church said at the time.
“We anticipate and pray for a full recovery. We both grieve and rejoice together during this challenging time.”
Right-wing radio host Bob Enyart mocked AIDS to the tine of Queen
While Williams remembered Enyart as “kind and humble”, many listeners will no doubt think of the Denver Bible Church pastor who left families of AIDS victims enraged and disturbed.
On his television show, Bob Enyart Live, in 1995, Enyart read a man’s obituary calling him a sodomite.
A regular feature of the provocative program, meanwhile, saw Enyart read aloud obituaries of AIDS victims to his cable television show while blasting Queen’s “Another One Bites the Dust”.
The lead singer of Queen, Freddie Mercury, passed away of AIDS related complications in 1991.
Rush Limbaugh included a more or less identical segment on his own eponymous show, The Rush Limbaugh Show, in the 1990s.
From the upbeat tunes of “Back in the Saddle Again” to “I’ll Never Love This Way Again”, Limbaugh read the names of those who died of what he called “the Rock Hudson disease”.
Enyart’s vicious anti-LGBT+ attitudes saw him protest coffee chain Starbucks’ support for marriage equality in 2012.
In a bizarre video as part of the National Organization for Marriage boycott of Starbucks, he purchased a cup of coffee only to pour it down the sewer and preach about how God made “man and woman”.
In October 2020, Enyart sued the state of Colorado over mask mandates and capacity in churches – capturing the rapid lengths as he sought to push the limits of acceptability.
He later urged his listeners to boycott life-saving vaccines “because they tested these three products on the cells of aborted babies”.
This does not happen.
