SALVATION singer Rebecca Black was asked how she keeps up with such a crazy career at the 2025 American Music Awards (AMAs) – and we could all do with heeding her answer.
Black first (infamously) rose to fame with her mega-viral hit “Friday” in 2011, which catapulted the then-13-year-old to stardom despite, shall we say, mixed reactions to the song.
14 years later, and Black, who came out as queer in 2020, has turned lemons into lemonade, with a successful DJ career, new album SALVATION and legions of die-hard fans. And it turns out there’s a secret method to keeping up with a career that lengthy.
“You’re an icon, you’ve had such a resurgence, such an incredible career – how have you kept up with it?” asked popular streamer QTCinderella on the AMAs red carpet for Billboard today (26 May).
And to that, Ms. Rebecca Black had the most iconic of answers: “Gay sex”. We couldn’t agree more.

The line was then picked up and published by pop culture X account Pop Crave, to which Black herself replied, “Confirmed.” Icon.
She did also add,” I’m taking one day at a time, I have a lot of fun with what I do, obviously, and that really helps,” but that’s not quite as fun as the first part.
Fans have reacted to Black’s advice with good humour, with one writing, “U just like me fr [for real],” and another adding, “Rebecca Black is based???”
“I do this and I don’t even make music,” joked a third. A fourth wrote, “I get it I really do”.
There were several queer winners at the 2025 AMAs, with Billie Eilish winning the award in all seven categories she was nominated in, Megan Thee Stallion taking home Favorite Female Hip Hop Artist and rapper-of-the-moment Doechii snatching Social Song of the Year for “Anxiety”.
SALAVATION by Rebecca Black is available to stream now.
