Woman slams Walmart’s Pride collection for making her ‘not want to be gay no more’ in viral video

A gay woman has jokingly slammed Walmart over its “too supportive” LGBTQ+ merchandise in a video that has gone viral online.

Walmart, which went viral last year after a TikToker pointed out that some of its popular bird-themed Christmas decorations were unintentionally quite gay, has now faced backlash from a worker.

In a video, that has been viewed more than five million times, but currently shows as unavailable on TikTok, an LGBTQ+ TikToker hits out at the retail chain’s Pride collection, joking that the merchandise is so bad it’s made her not want to be gay anymore.

“I’m not even going to lie to y’all, Walmart is making me not even want to be gay no more,” she told viewers, before showing various shirts featuring slogans and puns about sexual identities.

One shirt read ”¿Homo estas?” With the word “homo” written in rainbow colours. The shirt was a play on “Cómo estás”, meaning “how are you?”

One lilac shirt had the word “lesbian” written across the chest, with the “I” replaced by a bee in the colours of the lesbian flag.

Another white T-shirt featured a checklist with the points “cute, gay and ready to slay” all ticked off with rainbow-coloured check marks, while a third bore the phrase “bi babe” — a play on “bye babe” — in the colours of the bisexual flag.

The user, whose username is Bracefacepineapple, later clarified in follow-up posts that she works at Walmart but chooses not to shop there. She concluded the video by saying: “We can just go ahead and skip Pride Month because…”

Comments in response to the merchandise were hilarious, with one person writing, as reported by the Daily Mail: “I’m less bien after seeing that shirt,” and another adding, “This is also how I feel about JoJo Siwa.” Another exclaimed: I think they are being TOO supportive,” while another questioned, “Is this…..a hate crime??”

Of course, Walmart’s Pride collection has also caught the attention of right-wing critics, some of whom have vowed to boycott the brand for “shoving your pride in other people’s faces.” It seems they can’t win.

At the end of last year, the retail chain scrapped its equality policies following pressure from right-wing pundits, who had threatened a “DEI boycott” of the brand ahead of the Black Friday sales on 29 November.

Pride month merchandise has increasingly come under attack in recent years. In 2023, Target faced a backlash over its Pride collection and subsequently removed items from some stores, defending the move by saying staff had been subjected to “very aggressive behaviour”. The following year, the range was only available in “selected stores” and online.
