Wicked: For Good releases first (tiny) teaser – and we’re cracked

Wicked: For Good has released the first (three second long) teaser to celebrate six months until its release – and we’re already gagged.

The follow up to 2024’s movie event of the year, Wicked: For Good is set to take us all back to the land of Oz to see Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo), Glinda (Ariana Grande) and Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey) once more, in the second part of the hit musical’s film adaptation.

Wicked: For Good – which was renamed to reference Elphaba and Glinda’s heartbreaking duet of the same name after the first part’s release – is set to hit cinemas in exactly six months.

To celebrate that fact, the official Wicked social media accounts have just dropped the first actual teaser for the film in a seconds-long promo.

“The countdown begins. In six months, return to Oz,” the social media accounts for Wicked wrote.

The footage (barely) shows a window high up in what appears to be the Emerald City with a spiderweb of cracks spreading across it. But before we can even comprehend that, the title card and release date (21 November) pop up.

The clip harkens back to a surprising amount of glass-centric moments in Wicked; three separate times, Elphana smashes glass when trying to harness her powers.

“COUNTING DAYS,” one fan wrote, while another added: “We are halfway through the intermission!”

The Wicked: For Good trailer got an exclusive release date earlier this month, with 4 June pegged for when we’re going to see Elphie and Glinda (properly) back in action.

As announced at the time, though, only fans in the US and Canada who go to see Wicked when it re-releases in theatre for one night only on that date will get to see the trailer. For the rest of us mere mortals, there’s no concrete release date.

The plot of Wicked: For Good is also set to be changed from the original musical to be “less harmful to disabled people”

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Marissa Bode, a wheelchair user who portays Elphaba’s sister Nessarose, spoke about how the upcoming sequel will change a key part of the character’s original storyline.

“I cannot say what those are just yet, but they did make those changes so that the magic within Wicked is still there, but the narrative is less harmful to disabled people,” she said.

It will follow the fallout of Elphaba’s escape from the Wizard of Oz and Glinda’s refusal to go with her.

Wicked: For Good will be in cinemas 21 November.
