Trans Drag Race icon Adore Delano slams ‘f**king wild’ decision to issue her with a male passport

Trans Drag Race star Adore Delano claims she has been issued a male passport, adding that trans people are “a month-and-a-half to two months too late” to get their correct gender recognised on their documents.

The Drag Race alum, who came out as trans in 2023, celebrated legally changing her name to Adore Delano in a recent TikTok video but claimed, “it’s true you guys, they’re not changing my gender federally so my passport will remain male”.

Trans and non-binary Americans have been speaking out since US president Donald Trump took office for a second time, accusing the politician of halting passport applications to people whose sex is different to their biological sex at birth.

The suspensions came after an executive order signed by Donald Trump ordered that the government must recognise only two sexes: male and female. The executive order also maintained that “these sexes are not changeable”, meaning passport applications where the applicant’s gender is different to their biological sex at birth in some cases have not been processed.

This includes anyone seeking to use the gender-neutral “X” marker, leading a group of trans and non-binary people to sue the Trump administration.

Adore Delano explained that the decision to have her official documentation “remain male” was “f**king wild”, adding: “Just a head’s up girls, they told me that we’re like a month-and-a-half to two months too late… they’re really out here calling us men, girls!”

Actress Hunter Schafer has also been impacted by the Trump administration’s orders for trans people, showing off her new passport in February which listed the “M” marker, despite her selecting female when she filled out the paperwork.

“I saw it on my new passport. I was shocked because I didn’t think it was actually going to happen. I wanna acknowledge my privilege as a celebrity trans woman who is white and thin and can adhere to contemporary beauty standards – and it still happened,” Schafer explained.

She added that she believes the State Department is now cross-referencing passport applications with birth certificates to confirm the gender marker, as her birth certificate was the only document she hadn’t updated.

“I don’t give a f**k that they put an M on my passport. It doesn’t change really anything about me or my transness,” she said. “I’m never gonna stop being trans. A letter and a passport can’t change that. And f**k this administration.”

In addition to the new policy on passports, Trump has signed several other executive orders in recent weeks targeting trans people, including limiting trans girls and women from playing school sports, attempting to ban trans people from serving in the military, and attempting to place restrictions on gender-affirming care for trans youth.
