Olympic gold medallist Tom Daley has spoken about the 19-year age gap between him and his screenwriter husband, Dustin Lance Black.
Daley, 31, and Black, 50, married in 2017 after being together for four years. They now share two sons who they welcomed via surrogacy; Robbie, 6, and also Phoenix, 2.
In an interview with Us Weekly to mark the release of Daley’s new documentary Tom Daley: 1.6 Seconds the diving superstar was asked about the age-gap.
He said the pair’s 19-year age difference “one hundred percent,” feels like less the longer they are together. “It’s funny because the people that know us know that I’m the more mature person that kinds of runs the show in the house,” he continued.
“As we get older, I think we both align very well on what we want to achieve,” Daley then added. He said “the biggest thing” was that both men are “really big dreamers” and “so supportive of each other.”
He went on to say, “We don’t limit the other person’s dreams. We really make each other feel like we can achieve whatever we set our minds to.”
The family recently relocated on a more permanent basis to Los Angeles. Commenting on that, Daley said it was for “a number of reasons.”
He explained: “Part of it was the fact that Lance moved to the UK for me to be able to do my diving for the longest time. He moved away from his business and his work. ‘Now it’s his turn’, kind of vibe.”
Daley retired from diving following the 2024 Paris Olympics where he claimed a silver medal.
Since then he has announced a presenting gig for a knitting competition series on Channel 4. The series has the working title of Game of Wool.
