The White Lotus reached the season three finale in Thailand with a few typical guest-related deaths and a whole lot of plot twists. But the series cut a gag-worthy sex scene between some unexpected characters.
The third season finale of the Mike White-created series The White Lotus had a few loose ends to tie up. What would happen to Rick (Walton Goggins), who was on the search for his father’s killer? Would his girlfriend Chelsea (Aimee Lou Wood) run into any more snakes? How would the incestuous plot of brothers Saxon (Patrick Swarzenegger) and Lochlan (Sam Nivola) come to a head?
But amid all the madness and imminent deaths at the resort was a deleted scene between none other than Belinda’s son Zion (Nicholas Duvernay) and Piper (Sarah Catherine Hook), which was set to bring a light-hearted respite to the dark themes of season three.
“It had a little bit of a romantic rom-com vibe in the middle of [Timothy] trying to kill the family with the pong pong fruits,” White told The White Lotus Official Podcast on Monday (7 April).
The since deleted scene was set to see Piper having sex for the first time as a way to rebuke her older brother’s accusation of her being a “virgin” in episode one.
“She’s like, ‘It’s true, Saxon’s right about this one thing, I need to get this over with,’” White said. “After she leaves the monastery, she’s just like, ‘I need to have sex.’”
However, the sex scene “disappointingly” had to be removed due to episode length. “It was just one of these things where it’s an hour and a half already and it would have added, like, 10 minutes to the thing.”
The White Lotus is available to stream on Max in the US, and on Sky Atlantic and NOW in the UK.
