Ahead of the launch of The Last of Us season two, series newcomer Isabela Merced has teased what fans can expect. And it’s good news: Apparently, “the gays are going to be fed.”
Not that we weren’t in season one. The first season of the post-apocalyptic zombie drama was a smash-hit with the gays what with the heartbreaking third episode, ‘Long, Long Time’, and the connection between Ellie (Bell Ramsey) and Riley (Storm Reid). Also, Melanie Lynskey.
Now Merced, who stars as Dina – Ellie’s new love interest – has touched on what we can expect from the upcoming season.
Speaking to IMDb recently, the actress reflected on her favourite moments from season one, specifically the Ellie-Riley scenes. On what it was like working with Ramsey Merced said: “Bella’s extremely charming. Our chemistry is sort of undeniable, and the gays are going to be fed. Like, they’re going to be so happy. I love it.”

She also mentioned her experience in the edit room where she only wanted to watch the Ellie-Dina scenes. “I want to see it all,” she recalled telling creatives on the show. “And it was wonderfully edited, edited by a gay woman, Emily [Mendez]. Yeah, they’re just going as authentic as possible, and I really love that.”
Merced also recently responded to theories her character appeared in the first season as ‘the staring girl’ that Ellie screamed at and who ran away in the sixth episode. She told Entertainment Weekly she had seen the theories circulating online but poured doubt on their validity.
“In my opinion, and the Dina that I’ve witnessed and seen, Dina wouldn’t run away. Dina would be like, ‘Who are you?’,” Merced said. “I don’t think she would be scared of Ellie…. I don’t think Dina would run away, scared with her tail between her legs.”

Merced also told EW that the show would “expand upon [Dina’s] story a little more,” beyond the video game the season is based on. EW also reports that as well as Dina season two will also introduce Kat (Noah Lamanna), Ellie’s first girlfriend in Jackson.
The second season of the hit HBO show will adapt the video game The Last of Us Part II. Like the game, it picks up five years after the events of season one which ended with Joel (Pedro Pascal) lying to Ellie about whether her blood could have been a cure to the Cordyceps fungus pandemic that has ravaged the world.
Season two will see Ellie and Joel’s relationship come under strain due to the lie. Meanwhile, Dina becomes Ellie’s new love interest when pair meet in their commune in Jackson, Wyoming.
The Last of Us season two premieres on HBO on 13 April, 2025. Season is available to stream on Max. For UK viewers, the series is expected to air on Sky Atlantic and NOW from 13 April onwards.
