RuPaul’s Drag Race star confirms she ‘will be gone for a while’ with rehab stint

RuPaul’s Drag Race season 17 star Lexi Love has confirmed that she has entered rehab and ‘will be gone for a while’ for substance abuse treatment.

Trans icon Lexi love gagged viewers during the recently concluded 17th season of RuPaul’s Drag Race, picking up two wins along the way to the top four, including one for the season’s second split premiere.

Lexi was admirably open during her time on screen when it came to her chequered past, including instances of substance abuse and familial issues that led her to be kicked out of her home.

After an initial ‘step back‘ from drag, Lexi has now announced that she is fully checked into a rehab facility.

“I Lexi Love you; even that [sic] HATERS,” she captioned the statement which was posted to her social media platforms including Instagram and X, alongside a kissing emoji.

“For all you curious cats,” Lexi wrote. “I was brave enough tot take my Mental, Psycical [sic] and Emotional health serious for the first time ever.

“I am in rehab and will be gone for a while. Y’all better get ready for what’s coming!”

Lexi’s manager has also given a statement to Entertainment Weekly, confirming that the star is in 30-day treatment for substance abuse and emotional therapy.

While Lexi was open with her struggles with substances during her stint on season 17, her long-time friend and manager TJ Liedel confirmed to EW that meth is not a factor for this treatment, which she is undergoing at a facility in Texas.

“Her family, friends, and fans all know the love and light that Lexi has. We know how difficult it is to face these things head on. We’re extremely proud of the courage she has to face publicly, and to be a representative for so many in the community,” Liedel told the publication.

“Unfortunately, people demonize these things, but the only way we can get better about it is to be public, share stories, and actively work toward healthier, happier times. We appreciate the support of everyone. Know that Lexi appreciates everyone in their support, and she will be back soon. We Lexi Love you.”

Shortly after Lexi Love placed third/ fourth alongside Sam Star in the finale of season 17 of RuPaul’s Drag Race, leaving Jewels Sparkles as the runner up to season winner Onya Nurve, she announced that she was “taking a step back” from drag.

“I’m taking a step back to nurture my mental, physical, and emotional well-being. It’s time to transform my relationship with my inner saboteur — to understand it, disarm it, and step fully into my strength,” she wrote at the time.

She continued, “This journey isn’t one I can take alone. I know I’ll need help, guidance, and grace along the way — and I’m so grateful to have the love and support of this incredible community behind me.

“When I return, I’ll be ready to take on the world — bigger, better, and stronger than ever. And to those who doubted me — thank you for reminding me that resilience is a choice, and I choose to rise. I Lexi Love You.”

The queen opened up about her past on the season, including drug use and a terrifying human trafficking ordeal, as well as disclosing her HIV status, resulting in a huge wave of support from fans.

Though season 17 has finished, it is available to stream in its entirety on WOW Presents Plus – and All Stars 10  has also started on Paramount+ in the US and WOW Presents Plus internationally from 9 May.
