Nick Offerman eviscerates troll who used Parks and Recreation meme to bash Pride

Nick Offerman has taken down a homophobe who thought he could use a Parks and Recreation meme to hate on Pride Month by highlighting that his character Ron Swanson was involved in a gay wedding.

It’s Pride month which, among many things, means the annual onslaught of homophobes hating on June being a month where we celebrate all things LGBTQ+.

And Michael Flynn Jr., the son of former Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn, is among those to have given a clear indication of how he feels about Pride Month. On X/Twitter on Sunday (1 June) he wrote: “Good morning and Happy Sunday! No quotes today. Just wanted to post how I feel about “pride” month.”

He also shared a clip of Offerman’s character, Ron Swanson, throwing his computer in the bin. Except, over the computer (which Ron throws away after learning about online cookies) a pride flag was pasted.

But Offerman is having none of it. And much like the samurais of old cut Flynn’s jab down with a simple and elegant rebuttal.

“Ron was best man at a gay wedding you dumb fuck. #HappyPride,” he then said. In doing so he demonstrated conservative’s continued misunderstanding of his stoic character.

In Parks and Recs‘ finale Ron is the best man at his barber’s, Typhoon, wedding to his husband, Craig.

It’s not the first time Offerman has come out swinging against the homophobes and trolls.

While accepting an award for his queer role in The Last of Us at the Independent Spirit Awards in 2024, the actor slammed anti-LGBTQ+ hate of the queer storylines in the show.

“Thanks to HBO for having the guts to participate in this storytelling tradition that is truly independent, stories with guts that, when homophobic hate comes my way and says: ‘Why did you have to make it a gay story?’ we say, ‘Because you ask questions like that. It’s not a gay story, it’s a love story, you a**hole’,” Offerman said.

And speaking to iNews in 2023, the actor revealed he was “kinda fascinated by how openly people will express hate and brand themselves as bigots”.
