The Met Gala 2025 is underway with a theme of ‘Superfine: Tailoring Black Style’ – and the world’s most fashionable stars did not come to play, honey.
The first Monday in May brings with it the start of summertime in the UK, rising temperatures, the promise of Pedro Pascal as Mr. Fantastic right around the corner and – famously – the Met Gala 2025.
While last year gave us Andrew Scott’s massive arms, Jonathan Bailey’s secret flower and Zendaya turning the carpet (of course) for the theme Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion (The Garden of Time), stars this year are hitting the Met carpet for Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.
And they didn’t come to play. Here are the most notable lewks from queer celebs and beyond.
Colman Domingo
When we say that this man has never once – not once – missed on a red carpet, we absolutely mean it. One of the co-chairs of the Met Gala 2025, Colman Domingo is wearing not one but two superb Valentino looks this year.
The first cloak complete with c*nty breast plate look gives us RuPaul’s Drag Race lip-sync reveal but amped up by several hundred thousand dollars, and the suit’s textures go together so well you might as well call them Trixie and Katya. Top toot contender – and a nod to Andre Leon Talley?

Alex Newell
Survivor of Glee and vocal powerhouse, gender nonconforming icon Alex Newell in a black strapless gown with coordinating tuxedo cuff bracelets is a story of two halves.
While we love the corset and its texture, the bottom of the gown feels plain in comparison – both to the top of the gown, and to other looks on the carpet. Still, Alex looks gorgeous. Gorgeous!

Diana Ross
Diana Ross. What did we do to deserve you. After a 22-year-long hiatus, the mother of Motown is back for the Met Gala 2025, and we are gagged.
Wearing a gigantic gown, a gigantic hat with gigantic feathers, and and even more gigantic train embroidered with the names of her children and grandchildren, it’s a really good night for Ms. Ross. The train also required a small army of assistants to carry. Legend.

Cynthia Erivo
This look is wicked! (Sorry). On a serious note, Cynthia Erivo in Givenchy is really good.
The gigantic crystallised corset-cum-collar-cum-puffed out sleeve, the boots, the train. It’s Elphaba if Elphaba went to the Fashion Institute of Technology instead of Shiz University.

Doechii
WE LOVE THIS. NO NOTES.
The hair, the colours of the materials, the Louis Vuitton print. No one has ever understood the assignment more than Doechii. She’s also got the Louis Vuitton logo on her cheek! Ooooooh, I need to take a walk!

Lorde
A few questions for Lorde, the first being, “What was that?”
The references are probably going over our head, but the Thom Browne bandeau and dress don’t seem particularly on-theme – though the blazer does pull it back to menswear. How on earth is her top staying up?

Sabrina Carpenter
Once again proving why she’s the c*ntiest Polly Pocket to ever do it, we love love love this Sabrina Carpenter look.
The monotone burgundy from shoe to lip, the collar/ jacket/ bodysuit combo, the clean tails. 10s for this one, also by Louis Vuitton.

Miley Cyrus
Pass.

Tracee Ellis Ross
Strong contender for favourite look of the night, Tracee Ellis Ross arrived shortly after mother Diana – but is no less eye-catching.
Wearing Marc Jacobs with a gorgeous floral fuschia colour palette and oversized garments, this is an absolutely stunning look. Supreme.

Chappell Roan
From the Pink Pony Club to the Met Gala 2025, Chappell Roan is taking us there for her first appearance at the event, honey.
We’re obsessed with the mixed textures of the suit, as well as Chappell’s trademark red mane – though the makeup is the only aspect we don’t entirely gag for. And while it’s not shown in the picture below, the look was complete with a gigantic patchwork cloak in the same pink. LOVE.

Ncuti Gatwa
An icon, a legend, a Time-Lord and a sartorial assassin, Ncuti Gatwa is eating this blue carpet up, honey. The purple tones, the white cloves in hand, the neck bow. It all works so well.

Cardi B
Cardi B is the undisputed queen of the Met Gala – and in 2025, the crown remains firmly in place on her perfectly styled hair.
Cardi B is in a velvet green Burberry suit, with a back cutout detail and wide, wiiide, pants. Live.
