Heartstopper‘s Kit Connor has said he wouldn’t want to make a fourth season of the hit LGBTQ+ series “just for the sake of making it.”
The actor, 21, stars in the show as Nick Nelson, Charlie Spring’s (Joe Locke) love interest.
Since the show debuted on Netflix in 2021 it has been a smash success with audiences and critics alike. It has gained particular praise for its portrayal of young LGBTQ+ people enjoying narratives that stray away from the traumatic ones often depicted in LGBTQ+ media.
But what many Heartstopper fans will be keen to know is whether the show is returning for a fourth (and final) season. To date there has been no word regarding production on another season.

Speaking to The Cut recently, Connor addressed the idea of returning for another season of Heartstopper. The actor was unable to provide any update on the status of production, or whether it’s happening at all. But he did offer insight into what circumstances people would want to make another.
He told the publication that creatives on the show, himself included, wouldn’t want to make season four “just for the sake of making it.” Possibly referencing how long it could take to sort a fourth season, given not only his own busy schedule but that of his co-stars, he made the extremely valid point, “You don’t want to see Olivia Colman driving a 30-year-old Kit Connor to high school.”
Ultimately what Connor is looking for these days is “good writing, good filmmaker, good role.” Though, he did tease to The Cut that he already has several projects in the pipeline.

Connor’s comments, however, could dishearten fans worried about whether Nick, Charlie, and company’s stories get wrapped up properly on screen.
Season three was based largely on volumes four and five of Alice Oseman’s graphic novel series. And while volume six is yet to be released – Oseman said in 2024 that it’ll likely be published at the end of 2025 if not 2026 – the author and illustrator has previously offered an update on season four of the show.
“I’m working very hard to get us a renewal for Heartstopper,” Oseman told the Waterstones Children’s Book Festival in February. “It’s still ongoing. We don’t have a final answer yet. But there are so many people behind the scenes who are working really hard to make it happen.” They added: “We’re feeling optimistic, we’re feeling hopeful.”
Heartstopper producer, Patrick Walters, echoed Oseman’s remarks when talking to Deadline in March. He told the outlet that people were “working hard on it,” but “there are lots of moving parts.”
Heartstopper is streaming on Netflix now.
