Kathryn Hahn has said that she loves it when she gets called ‘Mother’ by her adoring LGBTQ+ fanbase.
The Agatha All Along star, 51, appeared on the latest episode of the podcast Good Hang with Amy Poehler. During the episode the two discussed working on hit sitcom Parks and Recreation together as well as talking about beauty standards in the entertainment industry.
This led Poehler to bring the conversation onto Hahn’s “Mother phase,” and how like other slightly older female celebrities, Hahn has been identified by the queer community as ‘Mother’.
“You’re Mother Hahn,” Poehler said, which is also the The Studio actress’ Instagram handle.
Comedian Amy Poehler then commented on the increased awareness and recognition Hahn has received in the last few years. This comes after roles like Agatha in Marvel’s Agatha All Along and WandaVision, which Poehler said was “led primarily by gay men, but not just gay men. Hahn chimed in with “and young gay women.”

Hahn likened being ‘mother’ to the character of Anne Bancroft in The Graduate. She added, “there’s a cougary vibe” to the adoration from her younger queer fans.
The pair then discussed what being ‘Mother’ means. Poehler articulated that, to her, “It’s a way to compliment someone’s wisdom and fortitude while still making them feel sexy.”
She goes on: “There’s something that feels sexy about it, because it’s very dom[inant]. It’s very, like, she will crush you.” The Saturday Night Live alum then added: “But also, there’s a reverence to it, like a respect. There’s like a loving respect.”
Hahn and Poehler recognised the origins of the term in the queer ballroom scene in 1980s New York. “I love it. It moves me so much,” said Hahn.
The Parks and Recreation stars then compared ‘Mother’ to ‘MILF’. The latter term was criticized by both women because, in their words, it’s “from the dude’s point of view in a gross, porny way.”
Touching more on Agatha All Along‘s queer fans, the actress said she loved them “so much.” She then said: “I love the very young queer women that loved Agatha All Along. That was such a huge part of our audience that was very, very moving.”
Agatha All Along added to Marvel’s LGBTQ+ representation in spades what with Hahn’s character, her kiss with Aubrey Plaza (the franchise’s first lesbian kiss), as well as Joe Locke as Wiccan who was canonically queer.
