Kacey Musgraves has announced her new album and film Star-Crossed, and it looks instantly iconic.
It’s not Golden Hour anymore as the singer enters her Greek tragedy era with a new aesthetic and sound for the upcoming album.
The film and album are both set to drop on 10 September, with the accompanying visuals being released on Paramount+ in the US and MTV in the UK.
Directed by Bardia Zeinali it also sees comedian Meg Stalter, who’s best known for her “hi gay” meme, Princess Nokia and Victoria Pedretti make appearances.
The film features cameos by Drag Race’s Symone, Eugene Levy and Orville Peck. (YouTube)
It will feature the 15 songs from her upcoming fifth studio album which is “structured as a modern-day tragedy in three acts, tell(ing) an extremely personal journey of heartache and healing.”
The album’s title track – and first single lifted from the LP – sets the tone for the record which is expected to be largely about her divorce.
She sings: “Let me set the scene/ Two lovers ripped right apart at the seams/ Woke up from the perfect dream/ And then the darkness came.”
The trailer for the film showcases a “sense of heightened reality,” and sees Kacey in a wedding dress and insanely high heels as well as participating in debutante lessons.
Fans are already excited for the new era from the six-time Grammy Award winner as it will see her crossover from country into pop.
One fan commented, “she really said ‘I’m giving the gays what they want’” and another added “this is f**king magnificent”.
Somebody else said, “every last image in this trailer is beautiful i’m OBSESSED,” while the cameos have been described as “icon s**t.”
Another fan noted the diversity in the trailer, saying, “the representation, the complete disregard for genre norms, making your own new sound, the film quality and storytelling – cannot wait.”
