JK Rowling and Boy George clash over trans rights

Anti-trans pundit JK Rowling has got into a row with pop star Boy George on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The Harry Potter author responded to accusations on X/Twitter from the pop star, who claimed she hated men.

Reacting to Rowling’s belief that actor and trans ally Pedro Pascal, who recently criticised the author’s views, was a misogynist for supporting trans women, Boy George said that disagreeing with her anti-trans views did not mean “you hate women”.

The “Same Thing in Reverse” singer went on to say: “She hates men. This is where this truth lies. She cannot differentiate between a ‘trans’ woman and a biological male, which is weird with her imagination.”

George then shared a number of tweets in solidarity with the trans community, saying that transgender youngsters shouldn’t have to live in fear of adults “[throwing] around mud”.

In reply, Rowliong wrote: “I’m married to a man, George. I do not hate men. I simply live in reality where men – however they identify – commit 98% of sexual assaults, and 88% of victims are female. Trans-identified men are no less likely than other kinds of men to pose a risk to women or girls.”

The statistic appears to be from figures released by the Coventry Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre, which reported that 98 per cent of sexual assault arrests in the UK involved men, and that an average of one in every five women has suffered sexual abuse.

However the report did not break down how those guilty of the attacks identified, and Rowling’s claims appear to be another example of her gender-critical stance. She has often called trans women “blokes”.
