House of the Dragon’s Emma D’Arcy has been cast in Tom Cruise’s untitled new film.
The untitled film, directed by Birdman and The Revenant director Alejandro González Iñárritu, is set to star Cruise and D’Arcy, alongside John Goodman, Jesse Plemons, Sandra Hüller, Sophie Wilde and Michael Stuhlbarg.
D’Arcy, who uses they/them pronouns, told Deadline: “I’m delighted to be working with such extraordinary and exacting artists as Alejandro and Tom.
“They are the masters of their craft, and witnessing them in combination has been a privilege,” they said.
Cruise told the outlet earlier this year that he was having “the time of my life” working with González Iñárritu and the rest of “this cast”.
Details of the plot are thin on the ground at this stage, but an official synopsis for the movie reads: “The most powerful man in the world embarks on a frantic mission to prove he is humanity’s saviour before the disaster he’s unleashed destroys everything.”
As per Variety, filming is currently underway in Pinewood Studios in the UK.
D’Arcy is known for their role as Rhaenyra Targaryen in the Game of Thrones prequel, having previously spoken out on being comfortable playing a woman despite being non-binary.
Last year, D’Arcy reflected on championing the non-binary community through their on-screen representation.
“Being a gender nonconforming person on screen feels like a real privilege because when I was younger, I thought that if I were to be able to act as my job, it would be quite separate from my identity, and maybe they would remain separate,” they told Gay Times.
“I didn’t know if it would be possible for those to overlap and be in conversation with one another.”
Meanwhile, Cruise is set to appear on-screen again in May in Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.
