Ellen DeGeneres announces truly tragic loss on social media: ‘He will be missed’

Ellen DeGeneres has shared the unfortunate news that her beloved dog, Augie, has passed away.

The former TV host shared the news with her followers on Instagram on Saturday (17 May) through a series of images of Augie.

“We had to say goodbye to Augie yesterday,” she posted. “We rescued him 12 years ago and he was so grateful. He gave us so much love. He will be missed. There will never be another like him”

In some of the image shared Ellen’s wife, Portia de Rossi, can be seen with Augie as well.

Many people reached out with the condolences for Ellen and Portia including the annual charity PETA who said: “Adopting sweet Augie changed his life, and his story continues to inspire others to open their hearts to homeless animals.”

In a separate post on Tuesday (20 May) to promote Kind Science, Ellen’s skincare brand, the TV personality’s wife can be seen holding a visibly old looking and sleepy Augie.

“Thank you for all of your kind messages about Augie,” Ellen wrote in the caption explaining the post was filmed a month ago.

Ellen has been keeping fans up to date on her new life in England after Donald Trump won a second term as president.

Their move to the Cotswolds began tumultuously, with DeGeneres having to deny fan worries that her home had been affected by flooding in the area. The luxury farmhouse is set within 43 acres of gardens, paddocks and fields and has six bedrooms, a gym, 55ft indoor pool, separate guest cottage, orchard, wildflower meadow and hundreds of feet of river frontage.

Then in February, there were reports that they were considering leaving the property, after allegedly locking horns with locals over a single-storey extension on their land.

According to the New York Post, the couple added a single-story extension to make their home even larger, but local residents weren’t happy, believing it would cause an increased flood risk. There were also fears the extension could have possibly disturbed historic Roman ruins around 200 meters from their property.

The pair have since moved to a different property, the Daily Mail reported.
