Teen Wolf star Dylan O’Brien told the world in 2024 how ‘grateful’ he was for his bond with his trans-masc sibling – but Julz has now claimed that the pair haven’t spoken ‘in over a year’.
Dylan O’Brien, who is best known for his role in supernatural teen drama Teen Wolf and in his upcoming horny gay flick Twinless, shared how ‘grateful’ he was for his relationship with his queer sibling, Julz, in Jaunary last year.
In an interview with Vulture from early 2024, which recently recirculated online, O’Brien shared that he has a “trans, non-binary sibling,” adding, “I know people who are queer. I am so grateful for how much it deepens my experience in this world.”
But, according to recent comments from Julz under a post by Gay Times reporting on the same interview, it seems that the pair are no longer as close as O’Brien’s claims might lead one to believe.
Julz first corrected media reports on their gender identity, writing, “I’m actually trans masc and go by he/they pronouns,” under the 3 May post.

He then replied to another person underneath the photo, writing, “[Dylan] also hasn’t spoken to me in over a year.
“He didn’t check in when I had top surgery. He didn’t even wish me a happy bday last week! But glad I could deepen his experience in the world and make the world love him that much more.”
The last pictures of Dylan on Julz’s Instagram are dated February 2023, which feature the pair with their mother, celebrating her birthday. Dylan was also featured on Julz’s page in August of 2022 for the Teen Wolf star’s birthday.
Dylan O’Brien has not publicly responded to his brother’s claims.
Julz posted about his top surgery to his Instagram at the start of April, captioning the post, “A little trans joy to celebrate [Trans Day of Visibility].”
O’Brien is next set to star in queer drama Ponyboi, led by River Gallo as a young intersex worker. O’Brien plays a sleazy drug dealer who is having an affair with Ponyboi, opposite You‘s Victoria Pedretti and The Last of Us‘s Murray Bartlett.
Ponyboi lands in US cinemas on June 27 this year.
