Death of a Unicorn 20-inch ridged ‘horn’ lamp leaves internet in hysterics

Film studio A24 has announced the release of a ridged purple ‘unicorn horn’ lamp to promote their new film starring Jenna Ortega, Death of a Unicorn – and no-one is being even slightly serious.

Starring Wednesday‘s Jenna Ortega and Avengers: Doomsday star Paul Rudd among an all star cast, Death of a Unicorn is the latest release from A24 film studio (the brains behind Everything Everywhere All At Once and Moonlight).

With the film in cinemas now, the publicity campaign for the comedy horror has climaxed – and apparently, so will owners of the latest promotional material for the film.

Or at least, that’s what X users are joking about following the release of a promotional image for the lamp.

The Death of a Unicorn ‘Blood Lamp’ features “an unethically-sourced 21″ glass unicorn horn filled with glowing purple liquid,” a post from X account Film Updates on 31 March read.

The official A24 website describes Death of a Unicorn Blood Lamp as an “oversized glass unicorn horn filled with glowing purple liquid,” accompanied by the film’s tagline, “poke around and find out.”

“Made from unethically sourced unicorn horn* in collaboration with Craighill,” the description continues, with the footnote leading a section that reveals the horn is, in fact, a frosted glass mold with an E17 incandescent bulb that measures 20.85″ x 4.25″ x 5″.

Though the website states that the lamps are only expected to ship in July, X users have already pointed out the obvious – which is, to be blunt, that this lamp is going inside someone.

“Lamp, huh,” one intrepid user wrote, with a second and third respectively warning others, “Do NOT insert y’all I repeat DO NOT INSERT” and “DO NOT PUT THIS WHERE IT DOES NOT BELONG!”

“I just know some nasty b*tch is gonna stick this up their ass and this app is gonna make me see it against my will,” a fourth lamented.

“ER nurses everywhere just sighed,” another X user joked.

Death of a Unicorn is the latest entry to the annals of big-screen flicks promoting their films with questionable looking products, including suspicious Dune: Part Two and Deadpool & Wolverine popcorn buckets on release.

The film follows Ortega and Rudd as a daughter-father duo who accidentally kill a mythical unicorn, only to be hunted down by its (very angry) parents. The cast is filled out by Téa Leoni in her return to screen, The Bear’s Will Poulter and Saltburn star Richard E. Grant.

Death of a Unicorn is in cinemas now.
