Conan Gray’s music video for his new single, “This Song,” from his upcoming fourth album Wishbone, has blown fans away with its gay romance theme.
The moving music video stars Gray and My Life with the Walter Boys’ Corey Fogelmanis as two young men falling in love during the course of the summer as they run through fields as the sun sets, wrestle in the river and take long twilight drives.
In “This Song,” Gray sings about writing a love song for someone whom he tries to express his romantic feelings for: “But now I’ll say it straight… I wrote this song about you.”
As the song reaches a sweeping climax, Gray and Fogelmanis share a kiss on a rooftop. It is a beautifully shot portrait of queer infatuation that fans are raving about.
Excited about the music video’s romantic narrative of a love story, one fan wrote: “CONAN GRAY HAPPY LOVE SONG AFTER ALL THESE YEARS I HAVE WAITED BEGGED AND PRAYED FOR TIMES LIKE THIS.”
Another fan posted: “an mlm music video from conan gray is enough to kill a boy like me. this truly means the world to me :’)”
Another sweet comment read: “conan gray just took the hearts of millions of closeted queer teens and gave them a tender pat and showed them that it’s really not the end of the story”
Heartstopper’s Joe Locke also responded to the video on Instagram, commenting “Ok mr muscles,” on Gray’s post about the video.
The album will also mark a new era for Conan Gray as Wishbone will be his first album that he personally owns the rights to, under GirlyBoy, Inc.
Writing about the new album, Gray shared: “Over the past two years, i’ve been secretly writing songs. after shows in the basements of the venues, in the sheets of my hotel beds, in narrow gaps between tours— I’d come back home and write all the things i felt nobody wanted to hear.
“Maybe even the things i didn’t want people to hear. I didn’t tell my friends. I didn’t tell my label. after all, I didn’t know i was making anything, and I had no plan to release any of it.
“I didn’t know what story I was telling, I was just living in it. Slowly I started to see myself in full picture. The slivers of myself I’d always been, but never faced. The songs I’d always been writing, but never singing.”
