Chappell Roan has delivered an update on her relationship status on the Call Her Daddy podcast, and sapphics are screaming in response.
“The Giver” hitmaker appeared on Alex Cooper’s podcast on Tuesday (25 March), where she detailed the true story behind her trademark track “HOT TO GO!” and what constitutes a “Casual” situationship.
Elsewhere in the episode, however, Roan revealed that she is no longer single. During a conversation about the importance of being single and learning to “one hundred per cent be okay being alone” before sharing your life with another person, Cooper asked if the lesbian icon was single.
“No,” Roan simply replied, revealing that she has been in a relationship for “six months”.
Cooper also asked whether her relationship is “casual”. Roan added, “No, it’s serious. I’m very in love, but I am pro-single.”
She continued, “Everyone should be single, I’m serious. Be single. Stop dating. Be single. Have a great time alone. Find out for yourself if you can one hundred percent be okay alone before you date.
“That’s what I found out. I had a great time when I was single, and I know that I’ll be okay, and now I have an awesome time that I’m with someone,” Roan explained.
Roan added that she and her current partner met via a friend, but their relationship was not set up by their mutual friend.
“I’m usually the one who makes – like in every circumstance – I make the first move,” Roan said. “I haven’t dated someone since this all really, really blew up. I’m dating the same person that I was dating before I blew up, so I’m not sure how I would date now.
“I think it would actually be a nightmare. I think I would be so single right now because you’re terrified of their intentions. I’m scared. I’m scared. I don’t trust anyone. I just think in my head, I’m like, any new person that I’m texting, I’m like, ‘I’m assuming they will screenshot this and send it to someone else.’”
Fans have responded to the news of Roan’s relationship, with one writing on X (formerly Twitter), “WDYM CHAPPELL IS NOT SINGLE”.
Another commented beneath the video, “Omg her talking about her gf was SO CUTE but also damn lucky gf…”
“Gasped at the not single part,” a third echoed.
