And Just Like That star asked for ‘more sex scenes’ in season 3: ‘I like being sexualised at 65’

…And Just Like That star Mario Cantone has shared that he asked for more sex scenes in the third season of the Sex and the City follow up.

The actor, 65, made the admission on Sex and the City co-star Kirstin Davis’ podcast Are You a Charlotte? ahead of …And Just Like That’s return in May.

Cantone, who debuted as wedding planner Anthony Marentino in Sex and the City way back in season three, revealed that “before season three started filming,” he told showrunner Michael Patrick King “I want more nudity.”

He recalled that after appearing somewhat undressed in …And Just Like That season two, “My DMs blew up the next day.” This made him want more adding, “I like being sexualized at 65 years old. It’s good.”

The second season of the sequel series saw Anthony run the Hot Fellas bakery. The character then falls for and dates one of his pizza delivery men, Giuseppe (Sebastiano Pigazzi).

Cantone also dished on the conversations he had with King ahead of …And Just Like That season two. “When we were going into the second season, Michael Patrick King called me up and said, ‘Hey, just so you know, you’re gonna be getting a storyline, you’re gonna be getting a boyfriend,” Cantone said.

Cantone also spoke with Davis about not being optimistic he’d be invited back after his first Sex and the City episode given the presence of Stanford Blatch (Willie Garson)in the show. “Back then one was enough,” he commented of TV in the 90s and early 2000s.

Cantone’s first appearance as Anthony endeared him to Sex and the City fans which saw him return in future seasons. He was even paired up with Stanford with the two characters marrying in 2010’s Sex and the City 2.

Sadly, Garson’s character was written out following the actor’s death from pancreatic cancer in 2021. At the time Cantone said of Garson: “I miss him. He made me laugh so hard, he was a great TV husband… He was loved, and he was brilliant and hilarious, he was everything. I miss him a lot.”

The new trailer for …And Just Like That season three shows Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) after parting ways with Aidan (John Corbett) in the season two finale. Things are “complicated” she tells her friend after getting a postcard from him.

However, we do see them together in the rest of the trailer so maybe Carrie will get her new romance after all… Aside from that we see glimpses of newcomer Rose O’Donnell.

Mehcad Brooks, Jonathan Cake, Racquel Chevremont. and Logan Marshall-Green also join the series. Returning will be Davis, Cynthia Nixon, Cantone, Corbett, Sarita Choudhury, Nicole Ari Parker, Cathy Ang, and more.

And Just Like That season three debuts on Thursday 29 May on Max and on Sky in the UK.
