American athlete Chris Robinson managed to win his 400m men’s hurdles event, despite giving the audience and cameraman more than they bargained for, after his entire package fell out of his underwear.
When one thinks of ‘hurdles‘, they typically would think of an athlete jumping over an obstacle at a high speed or in a sprint, during a race.
They probably don’t think of the metaphorical hurdle of trying to run the men’s 400m event at Ostrava Golden Spike meeting in the Czech Republic (25 June) while trying to make sure your penis doesn’t break free and fly around like Elphaba during the end of Wicked.
American athlete Chris Robinson unfortunately had to content with both, doing double duty during this week’s race, after his manhood slipped out of his shorts shortly after the starting gun was fired.
Chris’s little Robinson simply couldn’t be contained during the race; for the first half, the athlete attempted to get his baton back in his underwear, before giving up and managing to win the race with a season’s best time of 48.05 seconds despite the malfunction.
After winning the race, Robinson rolled over onto his front, laughing.
Commentators Tim Hutching and Hannah England christened the surprise an “equipment failure” through fits of laughter, in clips of the race that we obviously can’t embed.
“That’s a brilliant run from the American – to be constantly adjusting certain parts of his equipment and certainly his anatomy down the home straight and that top bend,” the pair said.
“Goodness me … constant adjustments going on, manhandling going on with his left hand.”
England and Hutchings then apologised as the slow-motion replays gave everyone a close-up look at Chris’s Robinson.
“There hasn’t been time to censor them, but well done to Chris Robinson for battling a problem that does emerge occasionally,” they said.
“Perhaps in a race every two or three years you see scenes like this from men and women with parts of their equipment failing. It can make it very, very awkward, but that was a stunning effort to stay out in front with all that going on.”
